Dear Parents, Students and Guardians,
***I have attached information including the concert order. I have also attached all parking information as well. Parking will be a problem downtown, especially at the time we are performing, so there are some options, please see attached. You will need to open the following documents from the Choral page on the BMB website:
2015 Performing Group Instructions
2015 OMEA Performance Order Information
2015 OMEA Map
Muni Lot Flyer
***I just found out that parents do not need a special pass this year to attend the performance at the convention center unless you plan to tour the exhibits. All are welcome!
Limitations that I want to detail for your benefit:
1. Parking is very difficult during the day. If your ensemble performs on Thursday or Friday during the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, I can virtually guarantee your parents will have difficulty finding a parking facility. If you are not proactive about this situation, many of your parents will be disappointed with the experience. OMEA is providing shuttle service from the Lakefront Municipal Parking Lot East at 1500 South Marginal Road; this lot is accessible from East 9th Street by taking the East Shoreway/Route 2 and using Exit 195A. Please distribute the attached flyer and parking map to your parents. Also be forewarned that many parking facilities in Cleveland DO NOT accept credit cards for parking. This may affect cars, trucks and buses.
2. The loading dock will be off-limits unless you are on our pre-approved list. This list is included in your instructions. The teamsters control the facility and if you do not follow instructions, there will be a charge to unload your equipment. The cost could be in excess of $1000 per vehicle.
3. This is not an environment to expect “forgiveness” regarding rules and regulations.
***Reminder that the LAST Sunday rehearsal will be this Sunday, January 25 from 6:30-8:30 PM In the choir room.
***The next evening rehearsal is Monday, February 2 from 6:30-8:30 PM. I can’t stress the importance enough for being at this rehearsal. We will begin to run through our performance in order and fix things as we go.
***There is a MANDATORY Preview Concert Wednesday, February 4 at 7:00 PM. ALL ARE WELCOME! If you are unable to make the Friday morning performance, please don’t miss this!
***The Call Time for Friday morning and all concert information can be found on the attached OMEA Performance document.
If you were a parent willing to chaperone, please email me again at firstname.lastname@example.org. I have 2 for sure, but want to make sure I didn’t miss an email from the fall/holidays.
This is a HUGE honor to perform at this event. We are showing other educators what is possible at the high school level. We have to be musically where we would be in May, but have to be there in February!

Hello Parents, Guardians and Students!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful break with family and friends! I just wanted to remind everyone about the upcoming mandatory rehearsals in preparation for our Ohio Music Educators Association’s State Conference on Friday, February 6. We perform at 9:30a.m. If interested in attending, I must know ahead of time in order to get a pass for entry into the conference. More details to come for parking for those who plan to attend.
The very next day Feb. 6th, the composer Christopher Tucker will visit the Symphonic Band during school to work with them on one of his pieces called “Americans Lost”. This is an exciting opportunity to meet a composer of a work we are playing (other than me). Here is what Mr. Tucker wrote about his piece:
“I first started sketching the first movement, my main inspiration was the emotion I had felt in reaction to school violence, e.g. the tragic events at Columbine High School in 1999. I wanted to compose a serious piece of music, which would open a venue for the director to create an awareness of these fatal acts and discuss their tragic repercussions. It is my hope that with further knowledge comes the possibility of eliminating a problem before it actually happens. I want the kids to feel what I felt and have compassion toward others – their American brothers and sisters. I, as well as the whole nation, was shocked to see and hear the devastation in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. I spent weeks glued to the television in disbelief asking, “Why? Why would anyone wish to destroy a life? What have honest and hard-working Americans done to deserve such a tragic fate? When will it stop?” In the following days and weeks, Americans from across the nation joined together in New York City, at the site of the remains of the World Trade Center, to search for survivors. No one gave up hope. It was an amazing and proud moment: Americans joined by a strong and unwavering bond, chanting USA and singing God Bless America and America, the Beautiful. Such an emotional experience, I dedicate Americans Lost to the victims’ families of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. America is a true testament of courage and love.”
I look forward to a great winter band season; see you all soon.
