MEMORIAL DAY PARADE INFORMATION FROM MR. ALLEN
Memorial Day Parade is on Monday May 30th. Marching Band members should plan to be at the High School by 7:30 a.m. Students need to have their:
- Bay band polo (SENIORS: We will be collecting your polo at the end of the parade, so wear a shirt under your polo)
- Khaki pants
- White socks
You do not need gloves or hat.
Please eat something and make sure you are hydrated. Do not lock your knees while standing at the ceremony. The weather is usually warm but should be a little cooler for us in the morning. We will parade march to Huntington Beach around 8:15 a.m. We will leave for the Cemetery around 8:45 a.m. There will be a ceremony at the Cemetery, followed by the parade to Cahoon Park. We usually are finished around 10:00 a.m.
Students will need to be picked up from Cahoon Park. The High School will be open for a brief window after the parade, to return instruments if needed. Do not expect the High School to be open after 10:30 a.m. Sousaphones and percussion instruments will be taken back in the trailer.
INFORMATION FROM OUR BUM’s
BUMs are looking for student volunteers THIS week!
Marching Band Students,
With concert and symphonic band season completed, Mr. Allen will now be focusing on Memorial Day Parade and Commencement Band performances. Some of you may find yourself with free time during band classes or lunch periods and our new BUMs could really use some help getting the freshly cleaned band uniforms ready for fittings during band camp in August.
Mrs. Curry will be around during lunch periods the week of May 23rd and will be guiding student volunteers through the process of re-hanging jackets on our numbered hangers and re-tagging the uniform pants hangers. Then everything needs to be returned to alphabetical or numerical order and pants need to be matched to jackets for our returning marchers. A $10 gift card for Chipotle or Five Guys will be awarded to the first FIVE students to register and complete THREE lunch periods in the uniform closet. This can also be used as a makeup for anyone who will be missing the Memorial Day parade performance (no gift card though, sorry!).
If you’re interested in helping out in the uniform closet this week please email Mrs. Curry firstname.lastname@example.org the days and lunch periods when you are available so she knows when to be around to direct volunteers.
Memorial Day Parade Uniform Information
Hello Marchers and Parents! We are almost done with the 2015/2016 marching season. Thanks to all who volunteered to help us with the uniforms this year. We need your help for the last marching event of the year.
NOW is the time to find your marching band polos and Dinkles, and make sure your khaki PANTS still fit for the Memorial Day parade. It is important to try these on today so that you have time to purchase new before the parade, if needed. Uniform Inspection expectations for the parade are as follows: Marching Band polo shirt, khaki pants (no shorts or capris please), white CREW LENGTH socks and CLEAN white Dinkles.
We have a VERY limited supply of polo shirts in stock (and by that we mean like five, and three of them have stains or holes and one is a 3XL) so DO NOT show up on the day of the parade and tell us you could not find your polo shirt! The time to tell us that is NOW so we can try to make arrangements to get you a replacement before the parade.
Likewise, do not show up the morning of the parade and tell us you cannot find your Dinkles or that they are way too small to wear in the parade. Again, the time to tell us is NOW so we can order you a NEW pair if we don’t have them in stock. THIS WEEK, you can also ask Mr. Allen to let you check in the bucket of used Dinkles for a replacement to use for the parade. You can return them after the parade or purchase them for $10. New Dinkles are $35. If you have arranged to order or purchase new shoes, please bring payment the day of the parade. PLEASE clean your Dinkles before the parade-the Veterans deserve to see you looking your best. Our soldiers would never have passed uniform inspection wearing those dirty scuffed up shoes!
Parent volunteers will not have time to deal with missing items or size issues on the morning of the parade, so please take a few minutes to make sure you are ready to honor our Veterans on May 30th.
Thank you from your BUM and BUD volunteers

Seniors and Non-Returning Marchers
Memorial Day is fast approaching and it’s time to return garment bags and polo shirts. Please wear a t-shirt under your band polo so you can turn it in after the parade. Find Mrs. Wirtz or Mrs. Finicle before you go down the steps for refreshments. No doughnuts for seniors wearing band polos!! Bring an extra pair of shoes if you would like to donate your Dinkles to the USED bucket. Please tie the laces together before you put them in the bucket.
A $25 fee will be charged for lost or non-returned polo shirts, and $10 for garment bags. You may return garment bags to the milk crate on the uniform counter at any time between now and Memorial Day. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON THE GARMENT BAG. Any non-returning marchers who are not planning to participate in the parade should also return their polo shirts and garment bags to the milk crate. Please put the shirt in a labeled ziploc bag so we know you returned it. Any fees for damaged or non returned uniform items will be communicated to school administration immediately after the parade. Any underclassmen who are not returning to marching band next fall-your grades will be held until items are returned or fees are paid.
For any graduating seniors, you will not be permitted to walk in the graduation ceremony until these items are returned or paid for. Neither Mr. Allen nor any of the uniform volunteers will be available at graduation practice to fix these issues, so please contact us BEFORE the parade to prevent any drama on graduation day.
It has been a pleasure to attend all of your musical performances and witness your many accomplishments over the past four years at Bay High School. We hope you all find a way to keep music in your lives, other than just listening to it through your headphones or cell phone speakers!
Your weary and teary-eyed Head BUMs
and Senior Band Parents,
Mrs. Finicle and Mrs. Wirtz
